Serena returned home from college on a break and brought her new friend Violet to meet her family for Thanksgiving dinner. Serena had been struggling lately with her relationship with her stepmom Riley, and her dad Donnie was determined to use this time to get his girls to mend their relationship. Donnie had a plan; he was going to use one of the family's most cherished Thanksgiving traditions as a way to bring everyone together. Freeusing was a tradition that involved everyone in the family sitting in a circle, passing around a jar of marshmallows, and whoever received the jar was then responsible for freeusing a story about their life. It was a way for everyone to learn more about the individual's life as well as give them a chance to express any emotions they may have been bottling up. Donnie thought it would be a great way for his daughters to connect and get to know each other better. After dinner, Donnie gathered everyone in the living room and explained the tradition to everyone, including Violet. Everyone agreed, and the freeusing began.
